Relive the adventure of the Lewis and Clark Expedition with the 2004 Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Silver Dollars.
These limited edition coins are 90% silver and make great keepsakes of a once-in-a-lifetime commemoration.
The American 5-Cent Coin Continuity Act of 2003, signed into law April 23, 2003, by President Bush, granted the Treasury secretary the discretion to redesign the 5-cent coin from 2003 to 2005 with designs reflective of the bicentennials of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 and the exploits of the Lewis and Clark Expedition from 1804 to 1806.
The first change in our nickel design for 65 years, these new designs will honor Thomas Jefferson, our 3rd President, and commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase, the momentous agreement that doubled the size of our country, and the remarkable expedition of Lewis and Clark, who journeyed more than 8,000 miles from Virginia to the Pacific Ocean and back to explore the lands and the people of the great Northwest.
